About Charles Levi Martin

Rev. Charles Levi Martin was born in Monrovia, Liberia, in West Africa. He emigrated to the united States in November 1976 where he lived in the Bronx, New York until 1978. Rev. Martin was called to the ministry at the age of nine and credits his preaching style to his hero, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. whose sermons he studied at length from wax records provided by his late mother, Janie Zipporah Fleming. Rev. Martin is known also for his skill as a singer. He honed this skill by listening to recordings of the Temptations, his favorite singing group during his youth. His singing prepares him for worship before he presents a sermon.

Rev. Martin was educated at The St. Patrick's High School and B. W. Harris Episcopal High School in Monrovia where he graduated in 1974. He was one of the first ten students to enroll at the Liberian Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975. In 1981 He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle, in New Rochelle, New York. He subsequently matriculated to the New York Theological Seminary, and Palmer Theological Seminary for his Master of Divinity degree.

Rev. Charles Levi martin was ordained Pastor of the United Christian Assembly Church in Brooklyn in 1979, and served until 1985. Rev. Martin saw his congregation grow from 15 in attendance to over 350 members. Following that pastorate Rev. Martin served as Assistant Pastor of the African United Methodist church in Trenton, New Jersey for five years. There he served as Chairman of the worship Committee, Chief Fellow of the after school program, facilitator of the New Membership Classes, Mid-week service, and Evangelism.

Rev. Martin became a member of Alpha Baptist Church in Willingboro, N.J., and served as Associate Pastor to that congregation for two years from 2000 to 2002. In 2002 Rev. Martin founded the Unity Fellowship Baptist Church in Willingboro, N.J. Unity holds its services at the John f. Kennedy Center in Willingboro, where Rev. Martin made his residence in August of 2003.

In the community, Rev. Martin is responsible for instituting in 2002, 'UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY' an event held each September in Willingboro at the JFK center with the goal of unifying various faith and ethnic groups. The 'UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY' event provides job referrals and free medical screening and assistance in securing medical services. In addition Rev. Martin established the 'Youth & Family Jamboree' the event is scheduled for July in 2010 and has been held at the J.F. Kennedy Center annually since 2003. The in 2010 and has been held at the J.F. The 'Youth & Family Jamboree' is designed to promote formal education, and to provide information regarding drugs, sexual contacts and other lifestyle issues faced by the youth of South Jersey, Staten Island, New York, and Pennsylvania. Participants are given the opportunity to interact with professionals in the community formally, and in recreational activities and sports. The Jamboree includes awards to community leaders, and professional who have significant difference and impact on the lives of Willingboro's youth and families.

For the Township of Willingboro, Rev. Martin serves as Master Facilitator for The Healthy Living Program for the Department of Aging. He teaches the Stanford University approved course on self management of chronic disease, for which he is certified. Rev. Martin is also founder of the C. Levi Martin Ministries and hosts a community television ministry, TRANSFORMATION, which airs on Comcast in the Burlington County area. Finally Rev. Martin founded the Liberian Christian Leadership Conference, which unifies various Liberian congregations in the tri-state area into one vehicle that ministers to the needs of Liberians in the Diaspora.

On January 17, 2009 Rev. Martin was honored by Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. Pi Mu Omega Chapter Willingboro, New Jersey with the Martin Luther King Jr.'Community Service Award.,'

On September 17, 2009 Rev. Martin was installed as Chairman of The Freedom Fund for the Willingboro NAACP Chapter and the surrounding area. In April of 2011 he became the first Vice President of the Willingboro and Vicinity NAACP. Rev. Martin is the father of three sons, Timothy, Eugene, and Edmund. He lives in Willingboro with his wife, Jurudoe-Ann and daughter Charlese. In addition to his pastoral duties, Rev. Martin works as a Sales & Marketing Executive for Comcast Cable in the Philadelphia Market.
